Spell with Flickr - Thing #5

Pastry Cutter D silver block e B B Y

I can't believe it but hey, I did it. No blogging here - just practicing. Could be a cool way to do graphics for a variety of things - on a blog or otherwise.

23 Things - #3 Keeping Up

OK - RSS and subscribing to blogs...
I made an account with bloglines and have subscribed to about 4 blogs. How in the world do you decide what to subscribe to? And when you copy and paste the URL in bloglines they give you more than one choice. I looked at them and they all seemed the same so I just chose one. I have no idea what this means. I'll try to remember to ask someone. In some ways I think this could get crazy. Sometimes I can hardly keep up with regular email. I'm assuming this will come in my email. But I do think if you could just subscribe to really pertinent ones maybe it would be fun to see what other people are saying on a topic. I'll keep looking for blogs that matter....to me.

Library thing #4 - Photosharing & Editing

We have a staff member who is already using flickr. I think it is a great way to showcase what is going on in the library. One of the links showed items that were either for a library auction or maybe it was prizes for Hot Reads. Either way, it was a cool way to highlight those items. Sort of like ebay. I've looked at lots of pictures from northfieldlocallygrown and northfield.org using flickr and find it's a really good way to find out what's going on around town. Sometimes I feel like I even went to the event! I don't own a digital camera so I'm not sure how much I'll use this but I know I personally enjoy looking at the pictures.

23 Things #2 Library 2.0

I'm finally getting around to reading some of the library 2.0 articles and also some on IM reference. We are thinking of doing this in Northfield and thinking seriously about using Meebo. St. Olaf apparently uses it so I will try to get in touch with someone there to ask questions. From what I have read, libraries really need to do this to stay relevant. Some people are not going to come to the library. This has always been true but now with the internet, librarians can help people navigate the web or find answers to questions that can't be answered on the internet.
